Ah, weddings! We’re coming up on our fifth family wedding, as our son Benjamin is engaged to his lovely Melinda. The groom-to-be lives in Oklahoma, the bride-to-be lives in Idaho and the wedding will take place in Washington. So when Melinda was able to visit us during Spring Break, we took the opportunity to host a family lingerie shower for her. If you missed the 2-minute video of their engagement and you’re in the mood to get choked up, here it is: The Master Plan
You have to understand that we have a big family. And I’m not just talking about our immediate family of fourteen. My husband’s siblings and parents live nearby, so we get together for parties and celebrations when the occasion calls for it. And believe me, a good time is had by all! We have a lot of fun together, along with friends and other extended family.
The women of the family gathered for a lingerie or “personal” shower at the home of my daughter Sarah. A couple of the teen girls came, but they played with little ones in another room during the PG-13 opening of the gifts.
The invitations were black, with pink roses and lace trim, so the decor for the shower echoed this theme (don’t you love the cute “Ooo-la-la”?):
Pink and black napkins (check out the pretty fruit cups and hot pretzels):
Cookies in the shapes of unmentionables:
More goodies, including homemade toffee:
I can’t show you pictures of the gifts because this is a G-rated blog. But really, isn’t it beautiful to celebrate the marriage bed?
Melinda was a good sport about the games and joke gifts. The evening was great “girl bonding time.” And she won’t have to buy underwear for ten years.
