Dick and Jane Baby Shower

Baby showers are made for FUN! We get to welcome a sweet new life into the world and celebrate with family and friends. Recently I hosted a baby shower for a new baby boy and his happy family. After buying a gift-wrapped blue polka dot cake, blue plates and matching polka dot napkins, I searched for a theme to go with these neutral building blocks. Wait a minute….blocks. After finding a stash of vintage wooden blocks in a cabinet at home (yes, I forget I have stuff like this), an idea hit me. Dick and Jane, my beloved school readers! As a veteran homeschooling mama, I have plenty of school stuff around, so a theme was born:  a vintage, school-themed Dick and Jane baby shower!

Themes make the world, or at least events, go round, and make it easier to create atmosphere. A wooden child’s chair, a marker board, globe, books and flash cards were among the first items gathered:

With a homemade card for the siblings’ names:

  2. This is such a cute idea- so bright and cheerful. You can buy vintage framed Dick and Jane pictures- authentic pages from Dick and Jane books- at https://www.etsy.com/shop/FabulousFunandUnique. I love all of the things that you have done using this theme, and using vintage themes makes it seem so warm and inviting. Many of them could be used for children’s rooms, as well. I am sure that this was an amazing party. Great job!
