Today’s post was written by my oldest daughter Sarah, and she’s sharing the details from her family Baby Gender Reveal Party!

Since this is our second child we won’t be having any big showers or parties so we decided to do a small gender reveal party with a few family members to have something special to put in the baby book.  There are lots of cute ideas floating around on the internet and Pinterest, so it would have been easy to go all out but we decided to keep it simple.

We had blue and pink lemonades, hot pretzels, strawberries and surprise cupcakes:

For the cupcakes we chose chocolate because that’s our family favorite.  After the cupcakes were baked and mostly cooled I used a small spoon to scoop out a little of the center of each cake and set the top aside.  When the cupcakes were completely cooled I used a plastic storage bag with the corner snipped off to fill the centers with a yummy strawberry icing.  Here is the recipe I used for the icing:

Strawberry Icing

6 tbs. butter mostly melted

2 cups powdered sugar

2 tbs. milk

1 tsp. imitation strawberry extract

food coloring

Heat the butter until almost melted.  Add other ingredients and stir until smooth.

Depending on the consistency you may have to add more milk or powdered sugar.  Be sure to add just little at a time   because you can always add more, but you can’t take it out once you’ve put in it.

The strawberry extract is red, but the icing is pretty pale so add a little blue or red food coloring to make the icing a more pronounced color for the surprise reveal.

After the cupcakes were filled I replaced the tops and piped chocolate icing on the cupcakes to hide the evidence.

When everyone arrived they picked up their snacks and chose a pink or blue napkin to show their guess for a boy or girl.  When we were all ready (with multiple others family members attending via FaceTime and speaker phone) everyone bit into their cupcake at the same time and found out….

it’s a GIRL!

  1. I have never seen this idea before … how cool!

Congratulations on your girl … sending you lots of positive vibes for the remainder of your pregnancy and your birth 🙂

  2. I think that you need to do some research on the safety of u/s- dopplerdanger on facebook is a great place for accurate info- I hate to see this trend of everyone having an u/s to find out the sex of the baby-or having a 3D u/s party- I have 9 kids and I never did that- just wanted to be surprised at the end- and there have never been any studies that prove that u/s is safe- did you know that they use it to break up kidney stones?

Shari, Sarah and her husband have made informed decisions for their baby and we respect that. Thanks for your concern and opinion.
